TEXAS HOLD’EM
Two cards (hole cards) are dealt face down to each player and then five community cards are placed face-up by the dealer—a series of three (“the flop”) then an additional single card (“the turn” or “fourth”) and another additional card (“the river” or “fifth street”). Players have the option to check, bet, raise or fold after each deal; i.e., betting may occur prior to the flop, “on the flop”, “on the turn”, and “on the river”.
OMAHA
Omaha poker is an exciting game derived from Texas Hold’em. Each player is dealt four private cards (‘hole cards’) which belong only to that player. Five community cards are dealt face-up on the ‘board’. In Omaha games, all players use exactly three of the community cards together with exactly two of their hole cards to make the best five-card poker hand. No more, and no less.
PINEAPPLE
What makes Pineapple different from regular Holdem is that you’re dealt three hole cards instead of two. Then, before the flop, you must discard one of the cards and play with only the other two the rest of the game. As in Holdem, by the end of the game, you can use any five-card combination of your two hole cards and the five community cards on the board to make the best hand.

Well someone finally had to take top spot sometime and I did it this week. Not that passing Gordie was hard to do since he was not there and I was only 6 points behind. That and the fact we only had 7 players this week meaning the least amount of points anyone could get if they finished last in both games would be a total of 6. Scottie also passed Gordie to take 2nd spot and Pete tied him for 3rd place.
It seemed that if you won the first big hand of the night you would roll right to 1st place in the end of that game. I won the first game I got pocket 6's and the flop came up with another 6 and I slow played it. At the end I was scared because a flush draw was sitting there on the turn and a straight draw came up on the river. Dougie saw this and went all in and he scares me when he does that because he always has a good hand. I read earlier that week how to play the type of hand I had but what was on board scared me but Scottie yelled out 'God hates a coward!!!!!' So I said to myself, 'Fuck it! I must have read that this week for a reason.' So I called him and he turned over a J for a pair of J's and I flipped over my 6's and he was down to $150 in chips. I don't think he expected me to slow play either since he notices I don't usually do that but I am mixing my game up so I am not so obvious. I got pretty good cards the rest of the night and took the first game.
In the second game I got a pair K's and decided to push people out but Pete would not have anything to do with it so he must have had a good hand. Pete kept checking and I kept raising, then river came up and there was a straight possibility so Pete Checked again and I decided I better check too. He flipped over his cards and sure enough he had the straight on the river! Damn it. He was surprised I checked cause I think he was going to go all in if I raised him again. Half my chips were gone and I could not recover from it. I guess I played obvious during this game since I did raise preflop when I had pockets. Pete is a good player to come out after me when everyone else said they knew I had it.
Also in the second game Boo and Pete went head to head with Boo going all in with a few hundred chips he had left. Pete called him but usually Boo has Pete's # and wins.
Well Boo flipped over A-4 and Pete flipped over A-7 then the flop came a 4 was in it. Boo went crazy, board cards always help Boo win a lot of hands, then the turn which was no help to Pete then the river came and it was a diamond. Well boo thought he won then Pete yelled out I have a flush. Boo sank back in his chair and we all laughed.
In the second game it came down to Pete and Dan. Dan could not get any face cards at all during any hand, he kept showing Boo and he could not believe Dan's luck. Dan got his first face card which was a Queen - if you know anything about Queens they were in almost every showdown or board cards that night, just like 8's during the last poker night before - and this was not good for him when Pete through out the Ace and won Ace high.
Lots of firsts that night including a new guy on top, Pete winning his first game, my win puts me in the 2 win club with Geoff and Boo. The best thing of the night was Russell winning his first amount of money since we started keeping track. I am glad for him cause he was due and was getting a bit frustrated. He and I went head to head in the first game for top prize and he was winning most of the hands. I got pocket 8's on the last hand and when another 8 hit the river I went all in and so did Russell and he did have top pair KK. He said he did not care before he flipped it over because he was just happy he was in a top 3 spot. Remember Russell was dangerous before we started keeping tack so he is going to be hard to stop if he gets on a roll and he is only 12 points from top spot now.
QQ seem to be Dan's hand because, I thought I saw him win on it twice, he said only once but I have seen him win with it a couple of poker nights.
Gordie will be coming back with a vengeance next poker night to try and get his spot back but the standings are tight. Everyone is 14 points away from the lead except for Geoff because he has missed two weeks and had some bad nights to go along with it. He is a total of 33 points behind and needs to make some strides to catch up which he can do since he is only one of 3 of us that has won 2 games.
Next poker night should be interesting but we still do not know what night it will be held on or what week because of the long weekend. We also do not know where so check the forum and we will vote on it.
