The first thing to say, is that the roulette wheel is designed to generate outcomes of pure chance. There is no purer form of gambling, and although most wheels are not 100% random (they may be biased, or the dealer may have a signature), they are as close to random as you can possibly get. Let’s look at a roulette wheel. It consists of an outside s a rim along which the ball rolls at the beginning of its journey. At some stage the ball will drop down from the rim when it loses momentum and travel towards the centre of the wheel. The ball’s angular acceleration α, now depends on the speed of the ball, AND its location, theta. This is due to the tilt- in some areas the ball is deccelerating up the tilt, and in others it is accelerating down it.
Using these and other equations to model the ball’s behaviour, the authors have made claimed that they are able to predict the final resting place of the ball with a high enough degree of accuracy to be able to get an edge over the casinos, by predicting:

The amount of tilt that a wheel has affects how big the “shadow zones” are on roulette wheels, as modelled by these equations. But importantly, these shadow zones or “forbidden zones” relate to where the ball comes off the rim of the outer wheel, not where it stops. The casinos still have one ace up their sleeve- and that is the “bumps” that chaotically scatter the ball in all directions.

How to Play Roulette
Roulette is a game that requires players to predict where a ball dropped on a spinning wheel will land. The player records their predictions with the dealer by placing their chips at designated areas on the roulette table. The game board on the table is made up of 3 columns of 12, labeled 1 through 36. At the top of the board are a “0” and a “00”. This means that there are 38 possible places for the ball to land on the wheel.
A person is allowed to make two types of bets, inside bets and outside bets. An inside bet means the player is betting on the number or set of numbers that the ball will land on while an outside bet means that a player is betting on the color of the number the ball lands on, whether the ball lands on an odd or even number, which column of 12 the number the ball lands on is located in and whether or not the ball lands on a low (1 through 18) or high (19 through 36) number. A player may bet inside, outside, or both, but each bet must meet minimum bet requirements.

When betting outside, the player can bet on the color of the number that the ball lands on, whether the number is odd or even, and whether the number is high or low, (each pays 1 to 1). A person can make a column bet by placing their chips at the bottom of which column they think will contain the number the ball lands on. A dozen bet allows the player to bet on whether the ball lands on the first 12 numbers, second 12 numbers, or third 12 numbers of the board.
As players will be able to see, the inside bets pay considerably more than the outside bets, since the odds of winning an inside bet are lower. For most of the outside bets, the player has a 50% chance of winning. For the most part, it isn’t too difficult to learn to play roulette. Perhaps the best thing about the game is that the player can bet on every possible outcome.
